Empowering the Next Generation: What Interns Can Learn From Your Company

by

What would you expect when you hear the title Intern? Coffee runs, busy work, and/or the jobs that nobody else wants to manage? At CarverMedia, I am here to tell you that is not the case! Throughout this blog, we will dive into all of the amazing knowledge and experience CarverMedia ensured within myself, a CaverMedia intern, and the companies we represent! Through various networking platforms to gaining in the field experience; each experience being separate and fulfilling on their own. Overall, let’s discover how having or being an intern can allow growth in the world of business!

As an intern at CarverMedia, I was introduced to various new online platforms. For example, we utilize a collaborative network known as Asana. Asana allows us to see all of our diverse clients and create scheduled assignments to ensure we complete what is needed to be done. This is important to make sure everyone is aware of a progression timeline within each account. Secondly, we utilize a platform known as Loomly. Loomly allows us to take the content we created on a separate platform, known as Canva, and upload scheduled posts. What’s so intricate about this platform is that you are able to schedule the posts on more than one social media platform, write separate or the exact same caption for the post(s), and add outside collaborators to their specific account. This way, the client has access to their expected content and is able to communicate any changes that they would prefer! Overall, all of these new platforms have allowed CarverMedia to successfully manage our workload and promote content productively.

Diving into the specifics of Canva from a business owner’s perspective reveals a plethora of key features that enhance productivity and creativity. For CarverMedia, Canva’s versatility is evident in its ability to create individualized brand templates tailored to each client’s unique identity. These templates are created based on the company’s logos and color palettes, ensuring a consistent and professional look across all designs. As an intern, this feature was incredibly beneficial, as it allowed me to seamlessly adhere to each client’s specific branding guidelines. By following these pre-set templates, I could easily incorporate the correct colors, logos, and design elements into my graphics. This then ensured that the social media content was both visually appealing and on-brand. If your business struggles with maintaining consistent yet eye-catching content, this would be a beneficial tool to utilize!

One of the most challenging aspects of the job is developing and managing client relationships. The diversification amongst my accounts stem from food sales to HVAC system installation. Being able to understand each account has significantly different target markets has a large impact on how I take certain pictures, curate graphics, and write captions per company. Networking with each client to discuss each of these aspects has curated new relationships and exceeded my expectation for professional growth.

My favorite aspect of working at CarverMedia is the flexible and structured hybrid schedule. Initially, I was anxious about this setup, but it has proven to be highly effective. I am in the office 3 days a week, while the other days are reserved for any meetings that fit our clients schedules or extended work that is incomplete. While in person, we are able to collaborate as employees and delegate work, as a unit, where we need to focus. I have utilized the offsite hours to meet with clients to ensure they are content with CarverMedia’s work which has allowed me to visit job sites in person and collaborate with our clients further. Not only does this benefit myself, but it benefits our clients by providing the ability to meet remotely through various platforms or in person at the location previously discussed. Having a flexible schedule has prevented an immense amount of burnout, as well as ensured fresh, creative content; both sides are more flexible and willing to formulate connected communication. Overall, scheduling is such an important acknowledgement to obtain as I enter into the ‘real world work force’.

In conclusion, my internship at CarverMedia has been a transformative experience that has equipped me with invaluable skills. Such opportunities can provide significant benefits not only to interns but also to businesses, as they foster a dynamic exchange of ideas and talent. From mastering essential digital platforms like Asana and Loomly to developing a keen understanding of client needs, each moment has contributed to professional growth. The collaborative environment and structured schedule have not only enhanced productivity but also fostered meaningful relationships with clients. As I reflect on this journey, I recognize the impact that a well-rounded internship can have on shaping one’s career path. Ultimately, my time at CarverMedia has solidified my passion for marketing and reinforced the idea that internships are crucial stepping stones to success in the ever-evolving landscape of business.
